Tallulah, darling
London, September 7, 1951.
At a press conference at the Ritz Hotel, Huntsville-born Tallulah Bankhead shocked photographers by suddenly slipping off her shoe, filling it with champagne, and drinking.
It was a moment that sealed her image as a bold, larger-than-life figure who delighted in breaking mid-century social norms.
Decades later, the Ritz named a champagne cocktail in her honor.
It was served, of course, in a glass stiletto.
