A Tribute to Birmingham-Southern College
How do you honor a place that no longer exists on paper… yet feels more alive than ever in the person you are today?
It has been over a year since my beloved alma mater, Birmingham-Southern College, closed its doors forever.
On its final day of operations in May 2024, I drove to Birmingham to attend the “Celebration and Farewell” with some of my dearest friends. The evening was the most joyful of reunions and the most devastating of funerals, simultaneously.
This Cityscape began in the quiet days after BSC closed, and started with the stained glass windows of Yielding Chapel.
To Dr. Coleman, Rev. Keith Thompson, and so many others who fought to keep her open — thank you.
Forward, Ever. Always.

About Christina
Artist and calligrapher
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, I now call Huntsville home with my two little boys. With roots half-Greek and half-Heard County, Georgia, it’s no surprise I’ve always loved both history and good storytelling.
My artistic journey began early, surrounded by the work of my mother, a professional artist who encouraged me to paint and create freely. That foundation of color and imagination still shapes how I see the world…and how I approach each piece today.
Though my formal education is in history (B.A., Birmingham-Southern College; M.Litt. in Reformation History, University of St. Andrews, Scotland) and education (M.A., University of Alabama at Birmingham), The Cardinal Collective reflects the path I began as a child: weaving together academics, storytelling, and creativity to create art with memory, meaning, and a sense of place.
Outside the studio, you’ll usually find me with my family, curled up with a book, experimenting with new recipes, walking my rescue dogs, or hunting for treasures at estate sales.
